Glenn Hughes first came to prominence in Trapeze. Following their third album, âYou Are The Music, Weâre Just The Bandâ, he joined Deep Purple for their âBurnâ, âStormbringerâ and âCome Taste The Bandâ albums. Deep Purple split in 1976.The first fruits of Glennâs post Purple career appeared with âPlay Me Outâ (also available on Purple Records), issued in July 1977. Glenn would go on to collaborate with Pat Thrall in Hughes-Thrall, Joe Lynn Turner in the Hughes-Turner Project, with Tony Iommi in Black Sabbath, plus pursue a prolific solo career through the 1990s and beyond.
Glennâs fourth solo album, âFeelâ, was originally released in 1995, and finds the singer veering towards more pop, soul and funk sounds rather than the hard rock. Former Guns nâ Roses and Velvet Revolver drummer Matt Sorum guests, and the album also sees a welcome collaboration with his Hughes-Thrall partner, Pat Thrall.
âAddictionâ (1996) was originally released in 1996, and unlike the more soulful pop of âFeelâ, it saw the singer returning to a much harder rocking sound. âThe Way It Isâ (1999) was produced by Glenn and Michael Scott, as well as featuring original material written with guitarist JJ Marsh.
CD4: âReturn Of The Crystal Karmaâ (2000), was produced by Glenn and Michael Scott, featuring original material written with guitarist JJ Marsh and keyboard player Hans ZermĂŒehlen, it also includes the track âGoneâ, co-written with Black Sabbathâs Tony Iommi.
CD5: âBuilding The Machineâ (2001) featured original material written with long-time collaborator and guitarist JJ Marsh, the album also includes a version of the Deep Purple classic, âHighball Shooterâ. Special guests include guitarist Pat Travers, who duets with Hughes on the Rare Earth cover âI Just Want To Celebrateâ, plus Totoâs Bobby Kimball and The Cureâs Lol Tolhurst appearing on backing vocals.
CD6: âSongs In The Key Of Rockâ mixes his beloved funk with 70s style hard rock. As well as featuring long-time collaborator JJ Marsh on guitar, the album includes guest spots from bassist Billy Sheehan and Red Hot Chili Peppersâ Chad Smith. âHigher Places (Song for Gonzo)â is a song dedicated to Glennâs dear friend, Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham.
